Risk Assessment
Risk assessment is the cornerstone of health and safety management and is the central feature of all new health and safety legislation.
All employers and the self-employed are required to assess the risk of injury, damage and loss to their workers or others (members of the public, contractors, etc) from any work they are undertaking.
A systematic general assessment of their work activities and premises should enable employers to identify any significant hazards, people at risk and any measures that are in place to eliminate or reduce the risk.
This process is also an opportunity to take a critical look at the undertakings to be sure that there is nothing else that can be done to make the work safer that may have been overlooked.
A suitable and sufficient risk assessment should protect people and equipment and also comply with health and safety law, there fore saving time and money.
The assessment should be recorded where there are five or more people employed.
